Martin Luther King

Anniversary - Speech “ I have a dream”.

In the 1960’s America was hard for the blacks to live in because blacks and whites were not equal in many ways. Schools and restaurants and other public places were segregated,This means that blacks and whites always had to be separated. Unfortunately the whites and blacks were not equal. Also the blacks had to give up their seats to whites on the bus. Fifty long years ago Martin Luther King gave his powerful and inspiring speech “ I have a dream”. His dream was to change things so the blacks and whites could come together. He also wanted equality.

MLk was born on Jan 15th 1929.He  studied law and then he followed in his father's footsteps of being a minister. He also had a passion standing up for black people’s rights. In his years he spent 11 days in jail for traffic and and taxing offenced.

His dream was to make whites and blacks could go school together and the whites and blacks could get along and were able to sit alongside one another on the bus.

MlK was in a book signing in Harlem when he suddenly got stabbed by a woman called Izola Curry on April 4Th 1968.He didn't die. At 6:01pm on Thursday, April 4, 1968 he got shot by a single bullet and went through his right cheek breaking his jaw and neck and several vertebrae. This resulted in his death.

Poem About the beach and My Home

Where i’m from I see my family breathing the fresh air
I  hear splashing and laughter of everyone.
I smell the smoked sausages and patties cooking on the BBQ.
I feel the warmth of the scorching sun as I lie in the sand as if I was getting fried in a pan.

I see my nana sitting on her bed from an exhausting day.
I hear the washing machine whirring swirling.
I feel my mom's arms wrapped around me as if I was a present.
I taste the delicious food my mum and nan make specially for us.

Term 3 Reflection

Term 3 is nearly over.
Wow term 3 is nearly over and so is the year. Being a year seven wasn't very long at all. But it was fun. The terms went past and now its nearly the holidays. CAN’T WAIT.

Playing Netball For The School
Netball season has finished. Playing it was exciting and fun. The best thing about it finishing was the shared lunch and most of all the prize giving. Because my team and I received the coolest AIM Netball badge. We all got one each it was an awesome prize. I realized that day that my group was the only group out of our school netball teams to get to go to prizes giving but it didn't matter it was fun.

Sports
Sports this term was playing basketball. We learnt new moves but mostly how to play. Every Tuesday we would practice basketball. Through the term we got better and better. It was a great sport to learn and play.

Protesting In New Zealand

Pulled out of school on a Monday morning by my mum and dad I was going with them to protest at a rugby game, the Springboks game . We drove all the way to Hamilton on the cloudiest day. When arriving we saw the stadium. We quickly joined the huge crowd of protesters waving signs that said “Stop The Tour” and singing. Rugby fans threw bottles and cans at us. As we entered the field they shouted,”Get off the field!” But we didn't.

We stayed at every game chanting in unison “1,2,3,4 we don't what no racist tour”. We chanted for hours and hours at every game there was. Fans didn't like what we did but we didn't care we wanted the tour to stop so we chanted more. Fans got very angry and threw a lot of cans.

Countries boycotted South Africa by stopping playing sports with them and stopping trading with them. But NZ ignored this and went back on their agreements not to play and invited the Springboks, South Africa’s rugby team to play sports in New Zealand. And this is why we started to protest.
